Search Text Statistics

Knowing what products your customers are searching for can greatly improve your sales and your customer satisfaction. All STN sites keep a log of the search terms that are used on the site when customers are looking for products. To access this list:

Navigate to Site > Statistics > Search Text

Statistics > Search Text

This will show a list of all the search words or phrases that have been used on your site to browse products, sorted by most searched.

Statistics
# is the rank of the phrase. Phrases are ranked by number of times searched. Search Text shows the word or phrase that customers searched for Times Requested shows how many times the word or phrase has been searched for on your site

From here, you can also click the Show Search Results button in the top-right corner. This will add a column that shows how many products were found using this search word or phrase.

Seeing how many products are displayed under a certain search phrase can be very helpful in deciding what product lines to carry or what keywords to assign to products. For example, in the picture below, this site has had 130 searches for “lego” but 0 results were returned for that search because they do not carry Lego products yet. You will also notice that the phrase “Rainbow Loom Kit” returned twice as many results as “rainbow loom”, which may mean that customers are seeing products that are not related to their search query. Other results to look for are misspelled words, or related words. For example, if a common search word is ‘dark’ but it is commonly misspelled as ‘drak’ then consider putting ‘drak’ in the keywords. Another example, if you see that “stuffed animals” is coming up repeatedly in searches, you may want to add that keyword to your plush toys, puppets, or other related items.

If products that should be showing up for a specific search word or phrase are not showing up, you may want to update the product’s name, keywords, and/or descriptions so that it will more closely match what your customers are searching for. Note: The first Search Text item listed will usually be blank and have many more requests than the rest. These results happen when someone browses by category, brand, price, or age without inputting a search term, which includes clicking menu links for categories, like this:
